So the final episode of The Block has ended, and it’s safe to say that it has been exciting.

After 12 weeks of blood, sweat, and tears, the contestants have finally put down their tools for good.

The final challenge ended with some fantastic results, along with some pretty shocking ones. The couples went out of their way to produce their best renos, and most of them succeeded. Some, however, disappointed the judges.

The Winners – Courtney and Hans (29 Points)

This week marked the triumph of the couple who has been blowing the judges away over the past three months.

Last week, Courtney and Hans’ guest bedroom took the crown. After the final reveal this week, they managed to secure their win with a stunning design.

The design of the kitchen impressed the judges, who really had nothing bad to say about it. Shaynna called it amazing, pointing out how ‘sensual’ the caesarstone benchtop and splashback is.

Neale called it ‘the kitchen of his dreams’, while Darren paid special attention to an incredibly well-done lighting.

Overall, the judges fell in love with the design and the couple earned their well-deserved win.

The Let-Down – Bianca and Carla (21.5 Points)

After being near the top of the leaderboard for pretty much the entire season, Bianca and Carla dropped the ball in the final challenge.

The living room they revealed this week dragged them to rock bottom, bringing their lowest score so far.

From stacking two rugs onto one another to going with an uncoordinated style, Bianca and Carla did too many things that the judges called ‘weird’.

Still, they did some things well. The judges liked some of the details such as the downlight and a palm tree photo.

Including the final challenge, here are the overall scores:

Courtney and Hans – 28.5

Hayden and Sara – 27.5

Bianca and Carla – 23.5

Kerrie and Spence – 20.5

Norm and Jess – 20

It seems to me in this final week that this is really a design and decorating show with elements of renovating. It does show that for those looking to flip properties it is hard, let’s face it there is few of us who can buy a $10mill dollar building construct 2 full penthouses on the roof and renovate the remaining 4 units and home to make money. In reality, if all the units sell for over $3mill then I suspect they still wouldn’t be making a profit.
